Eco-Punk

I met Anke at the Night Market in the Old Biscuit Mall
on wednesday. I was greeted with a smile and was
immediately attended to. Service like that always makes
me want to interact with the designer and it
also helped when choosing a little outfit for my
God child for christmas.

Her clothing designs are bright, eco-friendly and
very edgy hence the name eco-punk, her prices
are very affordable and she caters for girls and boys alike.
I was torn between the jumpsuit and gorgeous
little skirt, both of them were very different and had it's
own personality, like my little Joshya.

I liked the jumpsuit because of the use of colour and
the easiness of it all and I loved the skirt because of
the various material designs on it but most
of all the spiders, I think that just made it different,
loved it!

Have a look at her collection on facebook/website,
you won't be sorry!

Thanks again for the amazing service and designs.

Christmas Gifting Part 1

So for secret santa this year one of my friends suggested we do it
a little differently, instead of the normal pick a name out
of a hat and buy a gift for that person, we then all decided to
buy a gender neutral gift then when we all assembled pick names
out of a hat, to determine who needs to pick a gift first, once that
person chooses a gift they open it and the next person has the
choice of choosing a sealed gift or the gift the first person opened,
yikes, and so on and so on, I can't wait to see some cat fights taking
place, it's going to be brilliant!

Our exchange will be taking place on 23rd December and we
will also be having a wonderful Christmas Eve meal, I am really
looking forward to spending time with my friends whom I should
actually be calling my family, love you guys!

So for those of you who can't seem to get your heads around
what perfect gift to get that special person here are a few ideas.

For Little Girls & Boys:

Wooden toys and Plastic toys from ToysRUs.
Cute outfits at Ackermans and Woolworths.
A summer hamper - Cap, Swimsuit, Bucket and Spade, Sunblock.
Musica & CNA has some really nice children's DVD's.
Don't forget visiting Heartworks they always have a stunning
range of goodies and last but not least Mü&Me, I love the Hugo
notebooks!!!!!

DIY Cake Stands

It was my Mom's 60th and I wish I found this tutuorial then,
i think I'll try it anyway, check it out!

Kate’s Recycled Cake/Cupcake Stands
What You’ll Need:
- old plates (any size)
- old candlesticks or vases (look for anything that is wider at the
bottom, with a sturdy base and a flat top)
- epoxy (from a hardware store)
- masking tape
- popsicle stick or q-tips without their fluff (something to apply
the epoxy with)
- paper plate or scrap cardboard (something to mix the epoxy
on that you can throw out)
- rags and cleaning solution
For the variation:
- template of silhouette (or you can free hand)
- contact paper
- scissors
- spray paint
Directions:
1. Pick out which pieces you want to put together and test it out.
They should be able to balance on each other without the glue.
If not, you may want to rethink your choices..is your plate too
uneven or does your base have a flat enough top?
2. Clean all plates and vases/candlesticks thoroughly.
Dry completely.
3. Measure the back of the plate and mark a dot in the center
with a pen or marker.
4. Squeeze out a little epoxy and follow its directions for use.
After it’s mixed, apply it to the top of the candlestick/vase and
gently place your base upside down onto the plate, using your
dot as a guide to help you center it.
5. Let it sit for a few minutes, then gently press down on it to
hold it in place and get rid of any excess epoxy with a q-tip.
Apple tape on four sides to anchor it while it dries.

Wallpaper and things

I like the quirky feel of Catherine Hammerton's work,
the wallpaper and home accessories are all made in the UK.

Some pieces are plain and simple and some are more intricate
and colour based. I can't wait to furnish my place with these
beautiful wallpapers.

I love type...

... but not as much as Jessica Hische, I came across her website a
while ago and her work blew me away, I love her love for typography!

She is really gifted and has a few typefaces for sale on various font sites.
I have been looking for some inspiration for my Mom's 60th birthday
stationery and I have definitely been inspired by Jessica! Thanks!

I think I'll be going with creams, whites and maybe an accent of gold
here and there, whenever I think of my mom I think of gold,  she loves
that colour so much! Here are a few examples of Jessica's work that
will help me create the perfect invitation for my Mom.

Ceramics by Sarah Cihat's

After having a lovely day at Moyo yesterday and while having
my wonderful pot of tea, I fell in love with the teapot and realised
how much I missed my pottery evenings with all my wonderful
classmates. I miss the chitter chatter of everyone and all the
beautiful pieces that were created around me.

My teacher, the very talented Belinda Orman will be exhibiting
her week in Paarl next week and I will be there to support her.
Yay! When I found these pieces on Re-nest, I had to share
them with you, beautiful pieces by Sarah Cihat's, enjoy!

Cut out fun

Sculpted pencils, visionary alphabets, unusual media,
and painstaking attention to detail are common elements
in the works of three contemporary artists on view in the
Batchelor Gallery beginning April 2. The vivid colors and
eye-catching detail contained in these small objects, that
measure around a foot or less, will leave you astounded
and amazed.

Dalton Ghetti, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, has been making
his pencil creations since he was a schoolboy in Brazil.
Using a variety of simple razors and needles, he carves
incredibly detailed miniature sculptures out of the lead core
of pencils without the aid of technology or even a magnifying glass.
Alphabet, 2005, comprised of 26 individual pencils,
is hismost famous work.

Laser cut Leaves

Leaves were used as invitations and flyers for 'Design Naturally'.
The leaves need to be viewed in front of light, I think I might try
this and see what the outcome is.
